Council considers 40km/h speed limit proposal

A speed zone change would only affect Rockingham Road between Phoenix Road and Spearwood Avenue.

Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett, who raised the idea at the December council meeting, said the intent of his motion was to improve the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles around the Spearwood shopping centre precinct.

‘One only has to stand at any point along this section of road to observe the many near misses, particularly for pedestrians as they try to cross the road from bus stops to go shopping or to visit the myriad of small businesses,’ he said.
