Dog exercise area not for aggressive pets

The City of Cockburn will gauge public opinion before deciding whether to build the exercise area, with Jandakot’s Yarra Vista Park looking the most likely option.

But Dr Cameron Davidson said there would be problems if pet owners saw it as an area to let unsocialised dogs off the lead.

‘It could potentially encourage owners with dog-aggressive dogs to be let off the lead and put other sociable off-lead dogs and pet owners at risk,’ he said.

However, Mr Cameron also pointed out the upside of a fenced-off exercise area, saying it would offer a secure location for people to train their dogs.
