The centre is collecting aluminium cans and ring-pulls, which will then be donated to Wheel Chairs for Kids to make a chair for a child in need.

First Steps Early Learning Centre’s Shari Edwards said they decided to get on board with the fundraiser as part of Childcare Week and had so far collected more than 3000 cans.

‘The children have really enjoyed collecting and crushing the cans and we have been using the project to help teach the children about how aluminium is recycled, how it helps so many disadvantaged people around the world and also in various numeracy experiences with counting, weighing and addition,’ she said.
