Workshops in screen acting, gaming animation and special effects are available for beginners, while for the more experienced there are classes in video special effects and audition preparation.

WA Young Filmmaker of the Year 2011 Mat de Koning runs a three-day, make-a-movie workshop at East Hamilton Hill PS.

‘Students get an excellent practical understanding of how the screen acting and filmmaking processes work, as over the courses they learn the fundamentals about the equipment, get to devise a story and characters, and then apply their new skills in a practical way by making a short film with their class,’ said project manager Peta Kalaitzis.

‘As well as screen skills, they learn great life skills like team work and communication.’
