Double joy for tennis club this month

Not only will they have notched up their 107th year in existence, but they will also celebrate 50 years in their current location on the corner of Preston Point Road and Petra Street.

Club president Steve Burdett said it was important to the club to commemorate the milestone.

‘Fifty years on, it was decided to commemorate the day when the club first played tennis at its current location to increase the awareness of the current club members and to focus the attention on the challenges the club faces,’ he said.

‘East Fremantle has always been a suburb that provides facilities for a variety of sports and people and tennis is a sport that allows interaction between people from all walks of life and caters for players of every standard.

‘I am very proud to be a member of a club that has stood the test of time and is a testament to the hard work and perseverance of many dedicated tennis players over the years.’

To celebrate, the club will be holding a 50 Years of Tennis on the Swan function on October 26 after an afternoon full of tennis.
