Leah RobertsFremantle Gazette

UP to 3,397 East Fremantle residents can expect the new Food Organic Garden Organic (FOGO) waste service during the 2019/2020 financial year.

The FOGO waste system adds a bin for food and green organic waste on top of the recycling and waste bins and is a joint process with the City of Melville and Fremantle.

It would include a weekly collection of 240 litre lime green lid bin, a fortnightly collection of comingled recycling waste in the yellow lid bin and a collection of general waste with a red lid bin.

The current process would not include commercial properties.

In a report presented at council the estimated cost breakdown was $388,885.

The report stated “subject to council approvals.. it is anticipated that officers will progress with the procurement of the additional bins during the 2018/2019 financial year and progress with the implementation of the FOGO system in the early part of 2019/2020.

“The rollout is scheduled to occur over in one week.”

Deputy mayor Michael McPhail said people were passionate about waste.

“This is the first step of achieving a real goal of processing waste that is cost and energy efficient,” he said.
