FOLLOWING years of outstanding service to the area, David Nelson has been named the latest Freeman of the Town of East Fremantle.

At a ceremony at the East Fremantle Yacht Club, Mayor Jim O’Neill said Dr Nelson had dedicated his professional and personal life to community service and was a fitting recipient of the rare accolade.

Not only a local general practitioner, Dr Nelson also advocated for social health issues, founded Nelson Homes to help recovering addicts and been a mentor through alcoholics anonymous.

“Known and described as a humble and modest man, he has always strived to stay out of the limelight, yet he has been a constant supportive and giving member of the East Fremantle community for over 40 years, not only as a committed GP and church member, but as a mentor for his children and grandchildren,” Mr O’Neill said.

“He is driven by nothing more than the self-satisfaction gained by assisting people in the provision of high quality health services.”

Dr Nelson said he was honoured to receive the title.
