A FISHERMAN charged over the death of Charles John McCarthy has had his charge upgraded to murder after a court hearing this morning.

Andrew Doan, of Joondanna, was originally charged a week ago with grievous bodily harm over the incident, which occurred in East Fremantle in the early hours of December 23.

But that charge was upgraded to murder in Perth Magistrate’s Court today.

Mr Doan will next appear in court on January 31.

Mr McCarthy was taken to Royal Perth Hospital in a critical condition and later died of his injuries.
