EAST Fremantle budget passed last night at a special council meeting with a rate rise of 2.5 per cent.

The Town is passing on a surplus of $782,000 from the 2017/18 budget.

The rate increase will raise $7.78 million for the town and a $3 million capital works program has also been introduced.

The Town will now have access to the City of Fremantle Waste Facility.

Several elected member workshops were held and no ratepayer submissions were made about the proposed differential general rates and minimum payments.

East Fremantle mayor Jim O’Neill said the rate increase was modest.

“The cost for street lighting has increased significantly as well as rubbish and recycling costs,” he said.

“This budget is a responsible budget to ensure good services and physical amenities.

“Modest increases to provides the best services.”
