BRINGING back the good ol’ days, students at Richmond Primary School were able learn outside for the day on November 1.

Outdoor Classroom Day is a global campaign to celebrate outdoor learning and play.

Richmond Primary School principal Lisa Dentith said it was the first year the school has been involved.

“We have beautiful outdoor spaces at Richmond that we already use for outdoor learning every day,” she said.

“We know that being outside has positive benefits for children’s health, creativity and engagement and we wanted to join schools across the world to celebrate and promote outdoor learning.

“When we all think back to our own happiest memories of childhood and of school, we often remember how much fun it was to play outdoors.

“We hope to create a memorable day for our students and to engage them in problem-solving activities to develop teamwork and creativity.”

Ms Dentith said the student participated in a variety of activities.

“Junior primary students did water activities and played old fashioned games,” she said.

“In middle primary, some students did a scavenger hunt, made journey sticks and made nature art, others were engaged with the kitchen garden.

“Upper primary students walked the East Fremantle Heritage Trail and participated in a REmida workshop.”
