Eating challenges and crazy food items promised at new bar

Aaron CorlettFremantle Gazette

UNIQUE eating challenges, crazy food items and American sports on TV are just some of the elements that are being offered up at BBOY Burgers and Beer Bar, which opens tomorrow in O’Connor under the guidance of some familiar faces.

Brothers Nat and Matt Graham-Helwig are coming back to the South Street venue they once ran as Roxby Thai for nine years.

Nat said the only reason they closed the Thai restaurant in October 2018 was to focus on opening the Riverton Bar and Grill (RBG), which has been a real success.

“We’ve had so much success at RBG with the sports bar and burgers, so we thought we could open another venue with similar success,” Nat said.

“The building was actually a Lone Star back in the day, so that American concept is not unfamiliar.

“It will be a real casual place with counter service; half of the menu is burgers and the other half is typical pub food like fish and chips and parmigianas.”

RBG has become known for its eating challenges and BBOY will serve up similar ideas.

“There’s been lots of hype about the bar opening and I think it’s something that people want,” Nat said.

“It’ll be a place people can watch big events such as UFC, boxing and the footy and we’ll also have TAB machines.”
