End in sight for North Lake Road upgrades

THERE is respite on the way for local motorists with upgrades on North Lake Road due for completion within a month.

Work to widen North Lake Road between Hammond Road and Kentucky Court began in 2014.

However, the project encountered delays when utilities had to be relocated.

The City has also incurred $1.6 million in additional costs.

When finished, the carriageway will consist of four traffic lanes with a raised median island to separate opposing traffic flows.

Acting engineering and works director Anton Lees asked for a little more patience while the work is finished.“Benefits (from the road works) will include improved traffic flow and road safety through the precinct, plus a reduction in traffic congestion,” he said.

“A shared footpath will be constructed as a part of the project and this will be connected to the existing network to improve connectivity and walking and cycling movement.”
