THE City of Fremantle has agreed to lease the Cantonment Hill Naval Stores to the Enkel group.

The Council recently approved the lease between the City and Enkel Collective for five years, with Enkel having the option to extend the lease for three more terms of five years.

Rent will be calculated at a community use rate of $35sqm per annum, with the first year free.

Enkel intend to use the Naval Stores for a range of creative activities, including areas for local artists and entrepreneurs, a lab for prototyping and education to teach about new technologies and workshop space.

The space will also include a climbing wall, café and monthly public events and activities open to both members and the wider community.

The council will have to complete remedial work on the Naval Store to the tune of almost $500,000 before Enkel can move in.
