Luckily, there will be a chance to learn some of the city's dark, twisted, hidden and interesting stories when the Fremantle Heritage Festival kicks off on Friday.

The 10-day event will include a range of items that will scratch that history itch, from a range of talks and tours, to exhibitions and concerts and a variety of open days.

There are also half a dozen special events, including the new Suitcase Rummage.

Suitcase Rummage organiser Daniele Constance said the event would see participants selling vintage and handmade goods out of a suitcase at Pioneer Park.

"Some sellers coming along are bringing vintage clothes, bric-a-brac, handmade jewellery, candles, stationary, fabric and craft, so you never know what you might find at a rummage," she said.

"Suitcase Rummage is festive, encourages swapping and haggling, fun and frolic and is a way to meet local Creatives, be inspired and take a trinket or two home with you. The Heritage Festival is such a beautiful community program. We're all about supporting the vintage, the nostalgia, arts and culture and community and this festival does too."

The Suitcase Rummage is on May 10 from 11am to 4pm at Pioneer Park.
