SHIFTING from a career in finance to running Bikram yoga classes does not seem like an obvious move.

But for Wandi resident Holly Ord, it made total sense.

Ms Ord was introduced to yoga by a friend who said it could add something extra to her preparation for the New York Marathon.

“I thought, ‘yeah, it’s a bit of stretching, it will be easy’,” she said.

“Ten minutes in and I was flat on my back.”

From there everything changed.

“For me personally, Bikram provides 90 minutes where the noise and chaos of life stops, where you feel intensely connected to yourself, where every minute is just for you,” she said.

She says she wants others to feel that and is aiming to open Hot for Yoga in Cockburn Central in late January.

“I want to create a welcoming space, a studio that is home to a have-a-go culture where everyone feels like they belong and can be their best self and engage with this practice in their own time and at their own pace,” she said.

Ms Ord is currently crowd funding to help with the fit-out costs of the new studio.
