White Gum Valley’s Sandie McArdell, also known as Fairy Sandie, took time off from sprinkling fairy dust around Perth to heat to Parnngurr community for the carnival, where she painted faces and talked to the children about life as a fairy.

Ms McArdell said it was a ‘fabulous’ event for all involved.

‘About six to eight communities are bussed in from all around the Pilbara to attend the carnival,’ she said.

‘The kids come daily for a new face paint or just a chat and I often paint with kids hanging off me, playing with my hair and giving me cuddles.

‘I have been attending this festival every school holidays over the last year and it has been so wonderful building a beautiful relationship with the kids.’
