Former Greens MP headlines local government election candidates

FORMER Greens MP Lynn MacLaren headlines candidates seeking a role on what will be a new-look Fremantle Council after next month’s local elections.

Ms MacLaren, who served as a South Metropolitan MLC from 2009 to 2017, will go up against Tony Miosich and Frank Mofflin in the Hilton ward.

Current councillor Jeff McDonald has decided not to run again to focus on his role with the Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospital Group.

There will also be a new face representing East ward after Deputy Mayor Ingrid Waltham called time, with Michelle Cunningham and Su Groome in a two-person race to be elected.

Cr Dave Hume’s decision not to run also means there will be a vacancy in Beaconsfield ward for one of Geoff Graham, Gemma Hohnen and Christopher Jenkins.

Incumbent City ward Cr Rachel Pemberton is being challenged by former Deputy Mayor John Dowson and Julie Morgan. It is a two-person race in the North ward with incumbent Bryn Jones up against Steve Cook, and in South ward with incumbent Jon Strachan defending his seat against Marija Vujcic.
