FREMANTLE residents are fed up with continued homophobic graffiti on a South Fremantle cafe mural that supports marriage equality.

The mural by artist Reboot, which has been defaced three times, depicts a same sex couple and a rainbow saying ‘It’s about time’ with the hashtag equality.

Little Lefroy’s cafe owner Cat, who did not want her full name published, said she was proud of the strength of the Fremantle community in the face of adversity.

“A huge number of people have come together to support the cause and promote positive change,” she said.

“It sucks that this keeps happening but it really is just one d***head in a community full of wonderful people.

“We don’t know who keeps defacing the mural but it has a protective coating on it so hopefully they will just get bored soon.”

She said she was investigating whether CCTV footage was available in the area and wanted to find out who the perpetrator was.

Fremantle residents were quick to show their anger on social media; Andrew Parker said the perpetrator was “probably some local with a lack of morals and understanding”.

Fremantle resident Adelene Gumina said the act was “absolutely revolting”.
