Canine Couture Fashion Show hits Fremantle

Leah RobertsFremantle Gazette

THIS is no barking affair; four legged friends will take to the runway for the Canine Couture Fashion Show in Fremantle.

The show will feature a variety of dogs wearing hand crafted dog jackets made by local artists.

Leah Vlatko said the idea came following an art exhibition last year where the conversation turned to dogs.

“We were talking about how much we loved dogs and how much we love making art so we thought about putting the two together in the form of a semi-ridiculous, amazing high end couture fashion show,” she said.

“We thought we would do it for a good cause, all the profits will be going to the Shenton Park Dog Home and all the money from the dog coats will go directly to supporting the artists.”

She said it would have a New York Fashion Week feel.

“We are going to have the dogs walk in the ‘U’ shape and the dogs will walk down and strut their stuff,” she said.

“We will have Jamie Mykaela, a local comedian, who will be commentating on all the designs.

“It would be amazing if every artist could sell their dog coats on the night, lots of artists on the night are not actually textile artists but have adapted their work.

“We will also have a dog kissing booth where you can get a cuddle with one of the models for a gold coin donation.”

Ms Vlatko said they wanted dog coats of a variety of sizes to be available.

“From greyhounds to tiny little sausage dogs, lots of different sized dogs and shapes and personalities,” she said.

“Not sure if all personalities will quite be model material but I like the idea of dogs wanting pats on the dog walk.”

All coats will be up for sale and the tickets includes a drink and a vegan sausage sizzle.
