Fremantle council opposes Garden City expansion plans

At a meeting last week, Fremantle councillors agreed to submit a report to Melville before the public consultation period ended last Thursday.

The two main points that Fremantle wanted to address were the doubling of retail space under the new plan, as well as the lack of residential opportunities in the plans.

Fremantle’s report relays the city’s concerns that increasing the retail footprint at Garden City shopping centre from its current 60,000sqm to 120,000sqm by 2021 would affect the number of people shopping in the port city.
