Fremantle Detectives charge two men over road rage shooting incident in Hamilton Hill

Tyler BrownFremantle Gazette

TWO men have been charged over a road rage shooting incident in Hamilton Hill last night.

It is believed a man fired blank rounds of ammunition from a handgun after another driver flashed their headlights at him.

About 6.20pm, a white 2003 Hyundai Getz hatchback was travelling east along Dodd Street behind a silver Hyundai Elantra sedan before both vehicles stopped at the intersection with Frederick Street.

Police alleged a passenger in the Getz got out and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at the occupants of the Elantra and fired at least five shots at the vehicle.

The man then got back into the Getz, which travelled south along Frederick Street, before he leaned out the window and fired another shot.

The Getz was stopped by police in Fremantle a short time later and the passenger was taken into custody.

During a search of the Getz, police located and seized a black replica handgun containing several rounds of blank ammunition.

Fremantle Detectives have charged the 47-year-old Willagee passenger with going armed in a way that may cause fear and is due to appear before the Fremantle Magistrates Court on December 11.

The 49-year-old driver from South Fremantle will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date after police also found heroin and cannabis.

Inquiries are continuing and detectives would like to speak to anyone who saw the incident, particularly the driver of a silver Hyundai Elantra that was last seen travelling east along Dodd Street.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online.
