“We will celebrate our Indigenous, Aboriginal Australians as the custodians and caretakers of the land,” she said.

“It’s all about celebrating community and being proud of being West Australians.”

Ms Fitzgerald said the Fishing Boat Harbour was a magnificent venue for the event.

“We have a big light show and we have Fremantle Sea Rescue doing a demonstration on how they save people in the water,” she said.

“It’s a family friendly event, I can’t wait for it all to happen.”

Performers will include traditional Bibbulmun Aboriginal dance and music group Wadumbah Dance as well as Chinese lions and dragons from Yaolin Kung Fu Dragon and Lion Dance Association.

Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour Traders’ Group representative and Cicerellos owner Nick Unmack said he believed any event that celebrated WA, or any event that used the love of Fremantle, was important.

“I think the fact it’s on a long weekend gives a lot of opportunity for people who are looking for something to do,” he said.

“It’s a free family friendly event, the weather will be good, it’s a good opportunity to walk in as a young family.”
