FREMANTLE has featured four times in the upcoming 2017 WA Heritage Awards, all in the same category.
The Gunners Cottages, North Fremantle’s Hillcrest, Fremantle’s Wilhelmsen House and the former Dalgety Wool Stores, now Heirloom by Match, are all finalists in the Conservation or Adaptive Reuse of a State Registered Place in this year’s awards.
Lloyd Clark, the managing director of Match parent company M/Group, said Heirloom was the most significant development in their history.

READ NOW“The renewal process was sensitive in nature and proved extremely complex,” he said.
“However, to be recognised for our work as a finalist in the State Heritage Awards at the same time residents are moving in to make the space their own is both humbling and extremely rewarding.”
Heritage Council chair Anne Arnold said this year’s award would celebrate 25 years of honouring those who led the way.
“For the past 25 years, the Heritage Awards have played an important role in promoting the excellent work undertaken by our heritage champions,” she said.
“The high calibre of the 2017 finalists illustrate just how far we have come in developing innovative and exemplary practices in the conservation and promotion of our State’s heritage.
“In recent years, five WA Heritage Award winners have gone on to be honoured in the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation, clearly demonstrating the world-class standard of conservation and adaptation being undertaken in WA.”
The 2017 WA Heritage Awards will be held on May 26.
