“Circus WA is putting together some really stunning circus performances featuring performers of all ages,” he said.

“We’ll also have live music, last year there was dancing in the streets by 9pm.”

Despite the event being sold out, anyone can purchase dinner from food trucks and shop at the Christmas markets.

Businesses along High Street will be open throughout the evening.

St Pat’s chief executive Michael Piu said the community’s show of support was a sign of the times.

“I think people are really beginning to understand the seriousness of the gap between Australia’s richest and poorest,” he said.

“Just this week we’ve heard data showing that Australia has the highest median income in the world – and yet we have three million people living in poverty.”

“Community support behind events like this is an indicator that people do genuinely care about these issues.

“It’s fantastic to see businesses all over Freo supporting this great cause – whether it’s local businesses donating prizes for our charity auction, sponsoring the event itself or holding their own fundraiser on the night like our friends at Moore & Moore.

“We’ve been truly overwhelmed by the generosity of our community.”
