Fremantle: man pleads guilty to assault with hockey stick over affair

A FORMER high school teacher used a hockey stick to smash a windscreen and assault another man who was having an affair with his wife.

Joseph Pinto pleaded guilty to criminal damage, unlawful assault and carrying an article with intent to cause fear at the Fremantle Magistrates Court yesterday .

On Friday, August 24 in Parkwood, Mr Joseph and the victim met to discuss the affair.

After a discussion, Mr Joseph went back to his car and took out a hockey stick.

He then hit the victim on the arms and legs and proceeded to smash the victim’s car windscreen.

The assault took place near a playground with children present.

The lawyer for the 50-year-old said he went back to the car to show the victim an email chain after he did not feel the victim’s apology was sincere.

The next day he presented himself to a police station.

Mr Joseph was ordered to pay up to $3800 in fines.

Mr Joseph lawyer applied and was awarded a spent conviction due to his profession as a high school science teacher.
