AN athlete, a basket case, a princess and a criminal – The Breakfast Club is being performed by Fremantle Performing Artists on Thursday July 26.

Director, producer and playwright Brenton Foale said he adapted the screenplay of the famous 1980s movie for the stage.

“I chose The Breakfast Club because of the drama, emotion and the characters, three elements I believe are important to any play,” he said.

“There are many elements which make it fun including conflicts between the characters, watching the drama unfold, and the little surprises we have included for audiences.

“There are a few ‘easter eggs’ as I like to call them, which audiences won’t be expecting but will love.”

Mr Foale said there were many elements that made it challenging.

“The first was adapting the script as there are scenes in the film that were unnecessary for the stage play,” he said.

“The second challenge was finding talented actors who fit the roles.”
