FREMANTLE harbour master Captain Allan Gray (54) will skipper his worldwide colleagues after being elected president of the International Harbour Masters’ Association (IHMA) in London last week.

“My vision for the IHMA is to see an organisation that supports its members and speaks for them at the international level, particularly via the International Maritime Organisation,” Capt Gray said.

He was previously the Federal Master for the Company of Master Mariners Australia and in his day-time role is responsible for the management of shipping in both Fremantle’s inner and outer harbours, from waters north of Rottnest Island to Rockingham.

Capt Grey joined Fremantle Ports in 2006 after 20 years in container and tanker ships, while specialising in marine incident management and maritime systems.

He said he would work so that IHMA continued to provide a forum for professional expertise and the support for its members in more than 50 countries.
