Fremantle: Santa offers to pay for parking in December

Leah RobertsFremantle Gazette

CHRISTMAS has come early for visitors to the port city, with Santa offering to pay for people’s parking during the festive season.

All through December from Monday to Thursday the man in the red suit will be roaming the carparks of Fremantle spreading Christmas cheer by paying for tickets.

Fremantle mayor Brad Pettitt said the City has a special agreement with Santa to take time out of his schedule to visit.

“Around $1500 to $2000 worth of parking is paid for by free parking Santa each year,” he said.

“This is a small act of kindness that really helps foster the spirit of the Christmas season and spread some cheer in our community, that’s got to be a good thing.

“Santa tells us of some of his encounters with shoppers, who are absolutely delighted when he offers to pay for their parking – it does really make their day.”

Free parking Santa is working in conjunction with the #shopFREO competition where shoppers need to spend a minimum of $20 at any participating shops in Fremantle for a chance to win $500 to spend at their favourite store.
