FREO Now is encouraging creatives to come down and sell their wares in pop-up stores in Fremantle.

Around nine stores located along High Street Mall and the corner of Henderson and Williams Street will be available.

Freo Now board member Samantha Reece said a discussion was held around the high vacancy rate of shops in Fremantle.

“There is a 16 per cent vacancy rate and a board member researched the Adelaide Alive and Renew Newcastle members and brought it back to the board,” she said.

“We endorsed the idea as a way to attract new talents and hence new shoppers to Fremantle.

“The initial dealings with the Council have been positive but we are asking Council to provide rate relief to the property owners as a show of support.”

Ms Reece said they were looking for unique stores.

“We want unique creatives that make you turn your head and entice you into the shop,” she said.

“They have to be something that you wouldn’t normally see in a retail shop in Fremantle already.

“We are hoping that once they trial the pop-up that they will transition to a permanent tenancy.”

Ms Reece said if this is a success then the board hopes it will be an ongoing process.
