Funding focus now on State

The commitment looked like being scrapped when Region Development Minister Warren Truss announced he would re-evaluate funding for the recreation centre at Cockburn Central West, a joint project between Cockburn and the Fremantle Dockers.

But on Wednesday last week the Government announced it would fund projects left uncontracted under the former Labor government’s Regional Development Australia Fund, of which Cockburn’s proposed facility was one.

‘The City is delighted with the news that the $10 million for the Regional Aquatic, Sport and Community Facility at Cockburn Central West has been honoured by the Federal Government,’ Mayor Logan Howlett said following the announcement.

‘It’s a great win for our community and allows us to now focus on securing State Government funding.’
