Organiser Nik Peran said he had seen both his wife and a friend undergo operations to repair detached retinas.

He was so overwhelmed with the support they received during the process, that he decided to pay it forward and throw a ball to fundraise for an organisation that helps many people with vision impairments.

Mr Peran said he was hoping to raise $6000.

Its a roaring 20s themed occasion with a band, big dance floor and other entertainment, he said. People are encouraged to dress up and the venue will be fully styled in the era.

Anyone who can swing, dance ballroom or rock n roll will be thrilled and non dancers will be entertained with competitions, raffles and other activities.

Visibility needs ongoing support to help the 40,000 West Australians who live with vision problems or blindness.

By coming along, people are supporting a worthy cause and its a cause they may need themselves one day.

The Great Gatsby Ball will be held on April 18 at the Spearwood Dalmatinac Club from 7.30pm to 12am.
