IT can sometimes be a struggle to get children off the couch, but the Wanslea Early Learning and Development Centre will be having trouble getting them out of the back yard following a recent garden makeover.

A team from Bunnings Warehouse O’Connor got busy at the Fremantle centre planting vegetable gardens, trimming trees and hanging strawberry-filled baskets on the fence to give the Wanslea children some fun gardening activities to do in the future.

Wanslea centre co-ordinator Anna Di Martino said they were grateful for the make-over.

“The gardens beforehand were very bare and boring,” she said.

“The team that came did a fantastic job with the garden and the children really enjoyed participating in the planting.

“It teaches children how to look after their environment and they can watch how plants grow, and when the vegetables are ready to pick they can make a dish with the produce or our kitchen can use it.”
