Gas apprentices to rectify shortage

Sixteen apprentices will spend two years at the Challenger Institute of Technology’s Australian Centre for Energy and Process Training (ACEPT) in Munster.

That will be followed by two years of real-world experience as a fly-in, fly-out operator at onshore and offshore oil and gas facilities across Australia.

The finished product should be some well-trained graduates ready to address the country’s shortage of qualified LNG operations personnel.

The apprentices will be trained by the Energy Apprenticeships Group, in partnership with Quadrant Energy, Shell, Vermillion, Woodside, Challenger Institute and the Resources Industry Training Council.

More than 600 people applied to take part in the program.
