The Jandakot resident is currently enjoying regular work as a kitchen hand at Lone Star Rib House in Success, having previously worked at another fast food outlet in the area.

But prior to that Mr Bennett had been on the hunt for a job for twelve years, his disability proving a sticking point with potential employers.

His break came when he sought help from Edge Employment Solutions, a government-funded service helping workers with intellectual, learning, physical or mental difficulties find regular employment and secure fair wages.

"It's challenging work but I really enjoy it," Mr Bennett said.

"It's the opportunity that I was looking for.

"I think everyone deserves a chance and not just given a label. They should be given a chance to show their potential."

Manager Naomi Brauer said Mr Bennett was just like any other member of her staff.

"Everyone has a talent and people should be judged on their skills," she said.

Edge Employment Solutions will open a new branch at Cockburn Central on Thursday.
