Goal is to help kids

The event was created by Gary Fitzgerald, a returned serviceman from United Nations peacekeeping duties in Cambodia, where he saw first- hand the lives of children in orphanages.

Mr Fitzgerald said he had decided to run the event to make a difference to the place that had touched his heart.

‘I hope that people realise even a small donation and the smallest participation can make a difference to those who have nothing,’ he said.

‘I am hoping they see that giving is not just about receiving back, just the gift of making someone’s, in this case a child’s, life just that little bit better.’

Items to be auctioned include signed football jumpers from six AFL clubs, a dinner with yachtsman Jon Sanders at Crown Casino and entertainment from Peter ‘Spida’ Everitt.
