Green Army recruits getting down to work

Manning Park in Hamilton Hill, Little Rush Lake in Yangebup and Bibra Lake will benefit, with a Green Army (GA) team working with the City of Cockburn on natural resource management works.

The GA teams, which are made up of nine people aged between 17 and 24 and a supervisor, work on conservation projects across the country.

City of Cockburn engineering and works director Charles Sullivan said teams would help with planting, weed control and dieback treatment.

“The project will continue until early 2017 with the teams undertaking work at Manning Park, Little Rush Lake and Bibra Lake,” he said.

“The teams are currently installing over 4000 native plants and removing priority weeds across these reserves and gaining practical experience on projects important to protecting habitat for the endangered Carnaby’s black cockatoos.”
