But that is exactly what A Cappella West faces before it travels to Las Vegas to compete in the 2016 Sweet Adelines International in October.

The Perth-based women’s barbershop chorus earned that right after becoming national champions in Hobart last year.

Founder and director Lindsey Dyer said the chorus is expecting the international competition to represent a big step up.

“It is an opportunity to see the ‘big girls’, to see the next level of this art form,” she said.

“We don’t expect to win; this is an American art form and we will be among the best in the world.

“What we do expect is to walk off the international stage knowing we could not have done better, in front of an audience of 10,000 people.” Getting there will not be easy, or cheap.

To help them they have set up a number of fundraisers including concerts, quiz nights and movie nights, while also applying for grants.

Main fundraising events:

February 28: An Afternoon of Song at the Kalamunda Performing Arts Centre.

March 13: ACW joins Mater Christi in concert at the Mater Christi Parish in Yangebup.

April 9: ACW quiz night at the Leeming Bowling Club.

June 4: Before Pitch Perfect – An A Cappella Story at the Fremantle Town Hall for the Heritage Festival
