Hilton Primary and South Fremantle SHS teachers learn robotics from Scitech

WHEN the children are away, the adults will play – literally in the case of local teachers who visited Scitech to learn about using robotics in the classroom.

Teachers from Hilton Primary and South Fremantle Senior High School were among more than 250 educators who visited Scitech for the chance to get up close and personal with robots and discover how they could be used in different areas including coding, making art and creating circuits.

Scitech professional learning manager Helen Oke said robotics in the classroom could provide a unique learning opportunity.

“With the new Digital Technologies Curriculum rolling out in 2018 and the Department of Education technology kits delivered this year, teachers were calling out for hands-on help on what to do next,” she said.

“It is clear teachers want to bring robots into the classroom as a learning tool but many needed to see firsthand what the technology was capable of, and many were after some inspiration on the sorts of activities they could potentially conduct.”
