THE people of Perth braved the sizzling hot weather last week, finding a range of ways to keep cool and make the most of the school holidays.
The mercury topped 40C in Perth on January 3 and 4, following a 37-degree day on January 2.
Outer suburbs were even hotter. Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster James Ashley said hot air had come from inland WA, dragged to the coast by north-easterly winds.
The hot weather encouraged plenty to the water. Hundreds packed Coogee Beach, while Point Walter was also popular with families.
The Cockburn Ice Arena offered refuge from the heat, while Adventure World’s mix of water and rides saw large numbers flock through the gates.
In Fremantle, the heat did not deter many from the popular Esplanade Youth Plaza.
Perth is expected to swelter again this week, with easterly winds again bringing hot air to the coast.
