Commissioner for Consumer Protection Anne Driscoll said usual consumer rights applied when shopping at an Australian online business.
‘The festive season is a busy time and many consumers will be shopping online to save time and potentially money too,’ she said.
‘We all need to be smart when shopping online to make sure that we make the right choice.
‘The range of products for sale, navigating unfamiliar selling platforms, figuring out which reviews to trust, paying securely, it can sometimes be confusing.’
Ms Driscoll said the usual consumer rights might apply to those buying from an overseas online business, however consumers might experience difficulties in getting a result because of different laws.
Consumer Protection has produced a Shop Smart Online video to help outline consumer rights when shopping online.
