WA’s only World Heritage Listed building welcomed more than 187,000 visitors in 2012/13, beating the previous best of 179,000 in 2008/09.
Fremantle Prison executive manager Bevan Beaver said the prison’s uniqueness was a drawcard and that greater awareness of the history and significance of the building made it a must-see.
‘As a convict-built prison, it is unique in that it is intact and demonstrates the history of incarceration in WA,’ he said.
