Jessica Mithen forgoes traditional birthday party for Million Paws Walk participation with friends

Jessica NicoFremantle Gazette

MOST 10-year-old girls might want a beautiful fairy or princess-themed party for their 11th birthday, but not Jessica Mithen.

The young East Fremantle resident has forgone a typical childhood birthday party, instead inviting all of her friends to join her in this month’s Million Paws Walk.

Having lived overseas in China for five years, Jessica’s mum Julie Monument said the family saw a lot of cruelty to animals.

“When we returned from overseas Jessica was quite scared and anxious around animals, so we decided it was important that we add a pet to our family,” Ms Monument said.

Now completely in love with their family dog Stoney, Jessica is eager to help as many other animals as she can.

“I love dogs so much and I thought it would be fun and different to have my party at the Million Paws Walk,” she said.

“Its really important to me because animals are so loyal and loving and I would hate to see any animal get hurt.”

The Million Paws Walk is on May 15 at Sir James Mitchell Park.
