Co-founder Trevor Read said the annual event had grown significantly since it began two decades ago.

“It took off like wildfire,” he said. “I just wanted to create a fun swim.

“Together with the community being able to watch by walking along the beach and the range of people taking part, I think we created something really unique.”

Mr Read no longer pulls the strings to bring the event together.

These days that falls into the hands of the Cockburn Masters Swimming Club, which has organised two race lengths between Coogee Beach Jetty and Woodman Point Jetty.

The STS Leeuwin 2 will be anchored off Coogee Beach and will fire the cannon to start the swim on Sunday, March 13.

Part proceeds from the event will be donated to victims of the Waroona fires. To register and for full details visit www.jettytojetty.org.au .
