Mindfulness workshop for children to be held in Hilton

Jessica NicoFremantle Gazette

BEING in nature can promote calmness, positivity and good mental health, especially for children.

The Hilton Harvest Community Garden will host a free Mindfulness for Children workshop this month, with children given the chance to take part in nature-inspired mindfulness activities for a happy and healthy life.

Occupational therapist Sasha Wray, who runs the workshop, said since having children of her own she has seen how beneficial mindfulness skills are for them.

“The group starts with a brief explanation of mindfulness and breath awareness meditation, we then move on to nature based activities all designed to help teach mindfulness principles of being present, noticing our body, thoughts and feelings, knowing what we want in life and doing what matters,” she said.

“When children develop mindfulness skills they become more self aware and motivated.

“The children really enjoy the activities and the parents are always grateful that their children have learnt these skills.”

The Mindfulness for Children workshop is at the Hilton Harvest Community Garden on September 30 from 9.30am to 11.30am.
