Liberal candidate for Fremantle onboard rail idea for Yangebup and Beeliar

Bryce LuffFremantle Gazette

LIBERAL Party candidate for the state seat of Fremantle Hayden Shenton is talking up passenger rail linking Fremantle to Yangebup and Beeliar.

Mr Shenton said the project would involve upgrading the existing freight line out of Fremantle, with future growth along the coast justifying the development.

His plans, which are yet to be officially backed or funded by his party, include a park and ride in Spearwood and a bus transfer point at Visko Park, Yangebup.

“The good part about it is the reserve is already there,” he said.

“One day it is going to have to be done.

“There’s a decent amount of development on the coast and this will help deal with traffic in the area.”

Mr Shenton said he was pro-Roe 8 and supportive of Roe 9.

He has had a varied career, spending time in aviation, the banking sector and in real estate.

He currently lives in Applecross, outside his electorate, but said he had previously lived in Hamilton Hill, Munster and Spearwood.
