THERE are road closures along East Street while City of Fremantle contractors work on a section of retaining wall reinforcing the local limestone cliffs.
A small portion of limestone had been dislodged, which damaged a part of the walls integrity while it was being reinforced as part of scheduled maintenance, which made it unsafe to complete.
The city is unsure what caused the dislodgement, but made the decision to remove the retaining wall.
Intermittent traffic detours around the area may be needed in the short term until tests into the structural integrity of the cliff face is made.
The city is asking motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area if possible.
