Look at what the wind’s going to blow in

In what will be a rare sight, locals will have the chance to experience what it was like to stand on the shoreline and see the ships rolling in all those years ago when three Dutch Tall Ships visit the port this weekend.

The three ships ” Oosterschelde, Tecla and Bark Europa ” are scheduled to arrive in Fremantle on Saturday morning.

The ships left the Netherlands last year to take on a global circumnavigation, similar to the travels of explorers Willem Jansz, Abel Tasman and Anthony Van Diemen.

Fremantle Chamber of Commerce chief executive Tim Milsom said it should be a spectacular event for history lovers, ship fans and shoppers alike.

‘The Lord Nelson arrived this week and she is pretty impressive so if the other ships are anything like that coming in it will be quite impressive,’ he said.

‘You can come into the port city and do your shopping and get to see spectacular ships like this in port.’

The ships will be open on Sunday July 28 from 10am-3pm at Victoria Quay for a small donation.

They are also available for functions from July 29 to August 2. Visit www.dutchtallships.com for more information.
