Man charged over early-morning assault

POLICE have charged a man over an alleged assault in Fremantle that left a man with multiple injuries.

About 7.50am yesterday morning, a 69-year-old man was standing on High Street near the corner of Market Street when it’s alleged the man approached him and started harassing him.

Police say the incident escalated and the man punched the victim to the head.

The victim was treated at a nearby medical centre for an injury to his ear and cuts and scrapes to his hands and knees.

A 30-year-old man from Karrinyup has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and obstructing police.

He is due to next appear in the Fremantle Magistrates Court on November 4.

Several people were in the area around the time of the assault and police particularly wish to speak to a man who left a nearby store and went to the aid of the victim, who was on the ground.
