Man fined in Fremantle Magistrates Court for using mobile phone while driving

A MAN has been fined $400 for touching his mobile phone while stopped at a red light.

Stuart Richard pleaded guilty to the charge of using a mobile phone while driving a vehicle at Fremantle Magistrates Court yesterday.

On September 19, he was driving along Leach Highway in Willagee.

Richard used his phone whilst the car was stationary but not parked at a red light.

Magistrate Peter Malone said the law is written as such that it doesn’t matter if you are using the phone or not while driving

“If you touch the phone then it counts,” he said.
