A COODANUP man who twice robbed an O’Connor diving shop while on parole has been sent back to prison.

Appearing via video link from Hakea Prison, Robert Kevin McCullough pleaded guilty to stealing about $10,000 worth of diving gear from Adreno Scuba Diving store on December 19 before returning two days later to steal about $12,000 worth of items.

Police prosecutor Mark Henry said McCullough had listed the items on Gumtree using a false name but on December 21 police searched his Coodanup property, locating the stolen items and arrested him.

McCullough represented himself last Friday for his Fremantle Magistrate’s Court appearance, where he said he got out of prison on October 29 and his parole period was due to finish on January 7.

He said he was remorseful and had acted because of confronting family news.

Magistrate Nicholas Lemmon said he believed McCullough stole so he could sell the property and buy drugs.

He said there was no alternative to imprisonment given McCullough committed the offences while on parole.

McCullough received an eight-month jail term for the December 19 incident and 10 months for the December 21 incident, which will run concurrently.

All of the stolen property was recovered.
